EU-based Projects

• eContentplus programme - ICT - PSP
  A major EC-funded programme aimed at making digital content in Europe more accessible, usable and exploitable. After 31 december 2008 it became the Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) Policy Support Programme ("ICT PSP"), focused on Digital Libraries, Multilingual Web, Public Sector Information.
• ePSIplus
  Europe's one-stop platform devoted to Public Sector Information providing general news and data-sharing, good practices examples, new products and services, information about legal cases and more content across the European PSI community. Revamped after its first expiration in last February, the project will soon produce new material and activities.

• Europeana
  A huge collection of cultural and art treasures from Europe's museums and galleries, archives, libraries, etc.. The current prototype includes about 4 million digital objects, scheduled to reach over 10 million items in 2010.

• ICT Policy Support Programme
  This programme aims at stimulating innovation and competitiveness through the wider uptake and best use of ICT by citizens, governments and businesses.

• ICT Work Programme 2009-10
  The objective of ICT research under the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) is to improve the competitiveness of European industry – as well as to enable Europe to master and shape the future developments of these technologies so that the demands of its society and economy are met.

• i2010 benchmarking framework
  Based on a list of key indicators presented in 2006, this initiative also focuses on more complex issues of impact and usage of technologies in the wider economy, grouped under nine themes including security, inclusion, public services, etc.

• i2010: Digital Libraries Initiative
  This project plans to make all Europe’s cultural resources and scientific records – books, journals, films, maps, photographs, music, etc. – accessible to all, and preserve it for future generations. A digital version of the library of Alexandria, that was said to contain up to 70% of all human knowledge.

  The first university center in the world devoted to "the other side of the picture." Located at Duke Law School, Duke University, Durham, North Carolina, USA.

• Internet Governance Forum
  Open access and public domain are on the agenda of this worldwide entity and its on-going debate.

• Fair Use Repository
  Compilation of documents in the public domain and portions of documents cited in fair use by participating researchers.

• Public domain works in the USA
  A comprehensive chart outlining Copyright Terms and general works in the public domain published in US and abroad by US authors (as of 1 January 2008)

• Public Domain Information Project
  Reference site to help the ordinary person identify music and songs in the public domain in the US.

• Stanford Copyright & Fair use: The Public Domain
  Overview and analysis of public domain rules and issues in the US.

• Public Domain on Wikipedia
  A comprehensive definition, including its relationship with copyright laws around the world.

• COMMUNIA page on Wikipedia

• Sprixi
  A searchable database that gathers images from quality sites around the web generally released under a Creative Commons license or in the public domain.

• The Public Domain Works database
  An open registry of artistic works that are in the public domain.

• Public Domain calculator for USA
  A detailed Public Domain calculator and information site about US authors and works.

• List of countries' copyright length
  A growing list of worldwide countries and the length of their standard copyright in years.

• The forum on privatization and public domain
  A "process not an event" aimed at promoting a strong public discourse on the relationship between private property, various forms of commons, the public domain and public good.
